This Privacy Policy explains how Seeword (“we”, “us”, the “App”) handles your information. Seeword lets you photograph things around you and learn the English word for them, with pronunciation and a Chinese meaning. We collect as little as possible and we do not sell your data.

1. Information we collect

• Photos you capture or select. When you take a photo or choose one from your library, the image is sent to our server and immediately forwarded to a third-party AI vision service to identify the object. We do not store your photos on our servers. A copy is saved locally on your device so it appears in your word album.
• An anonymous device ID. On first launch the App generates a random identifier (a UUID) stored securely on your device. It is not linked to your real-world identity. We use it to sync your collection and to apply daily usage limits.
• Apple Sign-In (optional). If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple identity token and, only if you provide it, your name. We do not collect or store your email address.
• Your learning content. The words, example sentences, pronunciations and the local photo reference that make up your album.
• Settings. Your chosen difficulty level and playback speed, stored on your device.

2. What we do not collect

Seeword contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs. We do not collect your location, contacts, or browsing history, we do not log your IP address, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

3. Device permissions

• Camera — to photograph the things you want to learn.
• Photo library — to let you pick an existing photo instead.

You can change or revoke these at any time in iOS Settings. The App does not record audio.

4. Third-party services we use to process your data

To turn a photo into a word, we rely on the following providers. Your photo and/or the recognized word and example text are sent to them solely to generate the result:

• Alibaba Cloud (DashScope / Qwen) — image recognition, word definitions, and text-to-speech. Processing may take place on servers in mainland China.
• Google (Gemini & Google Cloud Text-to-Speech) — image recognition, word definitions, and text-to-speech.
• Apple — verifies your Sign-In with Apple, if you use it.

These providers process the data on our behalf to deliver the feature. We do not sell or share your data for advertising.

5. Where your data is stored, and for how long

Your photos, album and settings live on your device and are removed when you delete the App. Your anonymous ID, your saved words, and (if you signed in) your Apple ID and name are stored on our backend database and audio cache. Because the App has no in-app delete option yet, this data is kept until you ask us to remove it (see “Your choices”). Data sent to the third-party providers above is handled under their own retention and privacy policies.

6. Your choices and rights

• Access or deletion. Email us and we will provide a copy of, or delete, the data associated with your ID or Apple account.
• Stop syncing. Sign out, or revoke camera/photo permissions in iOS Settings.
• Delete everything locally. Removing the App deletes the local database and photos from your device.

7. Children’s privacy

Seeword is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

8. Security

Your anonymous ID and sign-in token are stored in the iOS Keychain. Data in transit is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when we do.
